- Cycling the Q-tank can be done by using ammonia, Special Blend and Nite Out II (without fish) if you start about 1 week before you buy new fish.
- Microbe-Lift Xtreme will remove all Chlorine/Chloramines, heavy metals, etc, and condition the water for your fish. Start with this product and use it when adding any new water.
- Add a filter with low circulation/agitation and good aeration.
- Monitor water quality. Test for ammonia, nitrite and KH/GH. Make sure your test kit is new.
- If parasite activity is suspected, treat with Microbe-Lift/Herbtana x 10 days. If fungus is noted, treat with Artemiss x 10 days. Both can be used concurrently, spacing these 12-hours apart for the 10-day period.
- Monitor water temperature, between 74°-85°F is ideal for freshwater fish. Keep water at 76°-82°F for reef fish quarantine. Use an aquarium thermometer for quick reference.
- Be sure to cover the quarantine tank to prevent any fish from jumping out. Add plant or decoration to help lower stress.

- Don’t allow unsupervised visitors access to your quarantine tank.
- Don’t allow feces or debris to build up in the quarantine tank. Use a siphon to remove any accumulating debris from the bare tank bottom.
- Do not ignore the fish while in quarantine. 20% water change may be used weekly while in quarantine.
- Keep new fish in quarantine for 4-6 weeks to guarantee no parasites or disease will be admitted into your Aquarium. This works for saltwater and freshwater.
- Certain fish are prone to specific diseases. Know what to look for. Do your research!
