Cloudy/White Water: Often a bacterial bloom or, if red/rust-colored, iron issues. Solution: Improve filtration and add aeration. (Often, in new tank, could be diatoms.)
Algae Blooms: Caused by too much light or high nutrients. Solution: Reduce lighting duration (e.g., 8-10 hours) and increase water changes. (Do not place Aquarium in front of window)
Fish Gasping/Death: Caused by lack of oxygen or chlorine/chloramine. Solution: Add an air pump, use a water conditioner, and check temperature. (Use Microbe-Lift Xtreme, TheraP, etc.)
Fish Illnesses (Fin Rot/Diseases): Caused by stress, poor water, or crowding. Solution: Improve water quality and use appropriate medications. (*Microbe-Lift has Artemiss for fin rot, Special Blend and Gravel & Substrate for cleaner tank, etc.)
Smell: A foul smell indicates decomposing waste. Solution: Special Blend will remove odors. Check for dead fish.
General Tips for Success:
Water Changes: Replace at least 20% of water weekly.
Feeding: Do not overfeed; fish should consume all food within 2 minutes, and watch for any that may drift to the bottom, uneaten.
Stocking: Adhere to rules like 1 gallon of water per 1 inch of fish (3 gallons for goldfish).
