NATURAL NATIVE GARDENS by Carolyn Weise

Lately, we have realized the effort and expense of keeping a good lawn.  Not only that, but it requires a lot of water.  More and more people are moving to the natural-garden-look.  Native plants are perennial or annual, returning next year either by the rootstock or seed.  And, being native to your area, they can withstand drought, flooding, heat and cold that is natural to you.  They also withstand blights and pests.  I have recently changed my entire yard into native plants.  They can withstand heavy winds and hurricanes which are common in the Florida summers.  I did not have to haul in yards of topsoil to support their growth.  Nor do I have to regularly fertilize these plants and trees.

The best of all is the water saved by turning off my irrigation system!

Think about that …
