First, let’s get rid of some MYTHS:

  • It is not an oxygen robberThis comes from using AlgAway 5.4 for the first time when the water is already over 75F. Warm water is not able to hold as much Oxygen as cold water.  Algae is an oxygenating plant.  If you kill a lot of algae in the warmer water, you are killing an oxygen source for your fish.  At the same time, you are adding a lot of dead/dying (algae) plants that will become organic waste.  The bacteria which has to break that down will take oxygen from the fish, too.  So, it is not the algicide taking oxygen from the water.  It is the ACT OF KILLING ALGAE IN WARM WATER that creates oxygen shortage.
  • It does not kill fishNot when the AlgAway 5.4 is measured accurately for your pond. If over-dosed, fish can easily die.  You must know how much water you are treating in order to prevent any problem.  This goes for any medical treatment, as well.  An overdose is dangerous.
  • It will not kill the grass when you do a water change– Algae has a different structure than grass and other plants. If the treated water splashes on your grass, the grass will not be harmed.
  • It does not harm birds/wildlife that comes to your pond– The AlgAway 5.4 kills algae by wrapping around the strings growing in your pond and cutting it off from oxygen and nutrients. Within 3 days, it will have done its job.  Birds and wildlife are not harmed.
  • It will not harm your puppy that drinks from the pond-Almost everyone has a dog or cat that drinks from the pond. If you are concerned that the animal will have an allergy to the chemicals in AlgAway 5.4 and want to be extra safe, keep your pets in the house, if possible, or away from the pond for 3 days.

It is TESTED AND APPROVED by the EPA.

It can only be used ONE TIME PER WEEK.  And it doesn’t need to be used more than that.  It says on the label, “REPEAT ONCE PER WEEK FOR MAINTENANCE”.  This is right above the dosage chart.

YOUR PART IN THIS:

  1. You need to know how many gallons in the pond BEFORE you treat.
  2. You have to have enough algae to warrant using an algicide.
  3. Call Ecological Labs (239-573-6650) or (239-308-4331) for help, if you don’t know, BEFORE you treat your pond. An overdose is the only way you can harm your fish.
  4. Know that reaching for an algicide should be the LAST THING YOU DO FOR ALGAE.
    • Do water exchanges.
    • Are you using Microbe-Lift/PL? PL helps keep your pond clean.
    • Do you have too many fish? That will encourage more algae.
    • Are you over-feeding?? That increases algae growth.

How to use your AlgAway 5.4:

  • This is the strongest and safest algicide on the market! With a pond full of koi or goldfish, the best way is to mix the correct amount of AlgAway 5.4 into a bucket.  Then, walk the bucket around the pond for best distribution.
  • READ ALL THE INFO ON THE LABEL.
  • 3-DAYS LATER: ADD MICROBE-LIFT/PL TO START THE BIOLOGICAL BREAKDOWN PROCESS OF THE DEAD ALGAE.
  • 4-DAYS LATER: USE MICROBE-LIFT/NUTRIENT EXPORT TO REMOVE EXCESS NUTRIENTS, JUST RELEASED BY DYING ALGAE.

And this is how you take control of your pond the
